PROCTOR & GAMBOL TO BUILD NEW TAMPAX PEARL CAPACITY
Auburn, ME Tambrands facility breaks ground on expansion project

CINCINNATI, June 27, 2007 – Procter & Gamble is increasing its Tampax Pearl manufacturing capacity with the construction of a 47,000 square foot expansion at its Tambrands plant in Auburn, ME.  The $25.5 million expansion was celebrated with a groundbreaking ceremony held today.

“Today we recognize the success of Tampax Pearl and thank P&G for continuing its significant investment in the Auburn community and the state of Maine,” said Governor John E. Baldacci.  “The quality of our workers along with state initiated programs such as Pine Tree Development Zones and the elimination of the business equipment tax were important factors in the company’s decision to expand here.  Maine remains committed to strengthening our business climate and developing new opportunities across our state.”

Sales of Tampax Pearl have grown consistently since the product’s introduction in 2002.  This expansion
will meet the increasing demand by providing the capacity to house additional production lines and warehouse facilities.

“The success of Tampax Pearl, the premier product in our feminine protection line, is surpassing our expectations,” said Site Manager Veronica Vargas.  “New production capacity is necessary to help us meet the needs of our consumers whose trust in our product has made us the leader in the industry.”
