Old Town Canoe to add jobs

Old Town (July 1): Old Town Canoe is adding 48 jobs at its facility in Old Town.

Johnson Outdoors Inc., the Racine, Wis.-based parent company of Old Town Canoe, is consolidating its paddle sport brands at its Old Town facility in order to streamline operations and position itself for future growth, according to a press release from Gov. John Baldacci's office.

The company chose Old Town as the site for growth because of the area's depth of manufacturing capability and capacity for expansion. "We appreciate the partner we have in Johnson Outdoors, and that the company recognizes that Maine's work force and craftsmanship are second to none," Baldacci said in a statement.

The city and state worked with the company to provide a package of incentives to ensure the company could meet its efficiency objectives best by expanding its operations in Maine.
