~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Athenahealth is one of eight employers which now occupy the Maine facilities once owned by MBNA.
Hundreds of jobs were lost in the state when Bank of America, which purchased MBNA in 2005, announced the closure of offices across Maine.
Now, all ten former MBNA facilities have either been leased or purchased. According to Tony McDonald, of CB Richard Ellis/The Boulos Company, the eight new employers which fill the former MBNA buildings provide over 600 new jobs.
"This was a great result for what at first blush was a troubling situation," said Tony McDonald, "Whenever a major employer announces major employment shifts there is rise for concern, particularly in some of the state's more rural areas. In this case, all 10 of these properties are filled with employees for 8 different firms providing a diverse employment base and over 600 new positions. Kudos to the State of Maine and thank you to Maine and Company for helping us get it done."
